President’s Beat

Messages from the President of Rocky Mountain Flycasters.

October 17, 2006

Greg Evans

October arrived out of nowhere for me, but I did manage a little fishing while romancing my wife on our 15th year anniversary. For you newlyweds, have faith, I never thought my wife would put on waders for me on a romantic weekend getaway either! What a (forgiving) woman!

Ken Eis was the presenter at the General Meeting which had a great turnout of over 50 people and many new faces. It was no wonder as Ken marveled the audience with beautiful photos of secret fishing holes in our neck of the woods. He was a great success, and we took notice. Look for more information on local fishing; November speakers will feature Colorado waters, our Fly Tying Expo in February will feature lessons on local patterns, and our own Dave Coulson will get our Spring off right in May with a local warm-water fishing presentation to rival Ken‘s. Rocky Mountain Flycasters is listening to the wishes of our new members!

This month‘s Board Meeting didn‘t even mention naked fish, but what a group of guys this is! For our annual financial report, Ron Sheets, our Treasurer, went around the room asking for hours of volunteer time, various education, advocacy and conservation projects had logged. I will get you the actual numbers after tabulated, but I was floored by the varied and numerous hours we put in. That is going to be around 3000 I am sure; that‘s the equivalent of a full time person and a half working on RMFC‘s behalf.

You will also notice our website is steadily improving in quality and content. Look for a more accurate and exhaustive Calendar, bios on speakers, a new feature - a link to Daily River Updates, and more conservation news. And as always email me with any suggestions you have for, well anything.

Speaking of the website, let me quit rambling so you can mark your own Calendar for our annual River Clean up this Saturday, October 21. Hope to see you there; I‘ll be the guy handing you a donut and T shirt for coming and trying to rent out two children.

Regards, Greg
