Greg Evans

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all! We just had our annual Christmas Party at the Sports Station (formerly the Depot) in Loveland! We were bursting at the seams this year in attendance, but the food and service was terrific and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves tremendously. The venerable Dr. Behnke was there with his wife. His comment to me was, “I just had surgery yesterday. The doctors told me no alcohol for 24 hours. It was 24 hours at 6:30. I just had my beer, so now I'm going home to sleep.” Wow, a man of priorities!

Chris revels in his fish lamp acquisition.

Also in attendence was Greg Sheets who was in great spirits but sorely in need of catching up since he too has been under the weather and unable to attend TU functions lately. We wish him continued recovery and health. Ken Eis led our gift exchange with humor, and everyone thought the white elephants were particularly bad and tasteless this year. The ceramic fish did resurface however; Chris Sheafor is its new steward and marble gluer for the year.

With year end the Board has been very active. In its last meeting, we explored the possibility of a scholarship program for CSU graduate students to expand on our past sponsorship of the Bonham fund. This led to a discussion of linking together our various North Fork of the Poudre projects and work with The Nature Conservancy, Water Utilities, etc. in a comprehensive vision for 2007. The board is formulating plans to advocate for the improving of Poudre River flows as the region’s entities discuss the alternatives for water storage in the area. For the lastest on these projects, Dave Piske our board member, encourages you to look at the following sites:

Stay tuned for our upcoming season programs starting with Mexico fly fishing this January and our now almost famous Fly Tying expo in February. In the meanwhile, I hope the holidays finds you in waders at least once or twice!
